I mean in his firm, he will have not only to pay for specific mariadb code (if we consider that MariaDB == MySQL Code + Some specific code) but for the whole software. Maybe he cannot afford it.

I think his action has one objective but with 2 possibilities :
- Either MySQL remains as is and he still can benefit from the MySQL code for free and opeate business with MariaDB
- Either he tries to make developpers move to MariaDB so that he still has code for freeUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04655178661733144703noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-496482.post-80662215082577039992010-01-04T09:51:15.686-05:002010-01-04T09:51:15.686-05:00i agree with your point of view. on a side note I ...i agree with your point of view. on a side note I regret dealing with MySQL for technical reasons and I thank God I had the chance to leave it behind in favour of Postgres. MySQL was a nightmare, a very low quality standard product both architecturally and concerning the implementation.mrxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17882792756983811595noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-496482.post-55559435203343994132010-01-04T08:54:06.555-05:002010-01-04T08:54:06.555-05:00> Because Monty is a little bastard. But let's also save some blame for Sun management. The folly of spending $1bn in the first place, and doing essentially nothing with it in the second has already been covered elsewhere. To those sins of incompetence, we can now add that they did not even include a basic non-compete clause--or at least a keep your pie-hole shut clause--to the deal.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-496482.post-76748240859333209982010-01-04T05:40:46.443-05:002010-01-04T05:40:46.443-05:00> I am having a hard time understanding why Mic...> I am having a hard time understanding why Michael "Monty" Widenius is pushing so hard to Save MySQL as the Oracle takeover of Sun Microsystems looms.

Because Monty is a little bastard. They could also charge for the distribution of latest code releases.Rastin Mehrhttp://www.rmdstudio.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-496482.post-26791701709126946962010-01-03T15:14:56.560-05:002010-01-03T15:14:56.560-05:00time to move on to NoSQL solutions anyway perhaps?...time to move on to NoSQL solutions anyway perhaps?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-496482.post-55096740332351436602010-01-02T22:53:22.857-05:002010-01-02T22:53:22.857-05:00Agitating for the European Commission to force the...Agitating for the European Commission to force the changing of the license - one from which he has already repeatedly profited - was the point at which I realised this had nothing to do with "saving" MySQL and everything to do with Monty wanting to continue to capitalise on it.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14143498952297899974noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-496482.post-33683380045272582162010-01-02T14:46:04.784-05:002010-01-02T14:46:04.784-05:00No fork will be able to offer a dual licence.
